Hi, my name is Andrea and I work for the Manningham Whitehorse Regional Library Corporation and the Monash Public Library Service.
I have been a librarian for only two years and worked as a court reporter for twenty years prior to that. I worked in the County and Supreme Courts for seven years, followed by 7 years at the former Employee Relations Commission at Nauru House. I also worked as a Hansard Reporter at Parliament House for 5 years when Jeff Kennett was premier, then Steve Bracks. They were very exciting times and I loved my work, but the hours were unbearable, especially with two small boys, so I did some extra study to become a librarian.
I love my current job and really enjoy the challenge of tricky information queries. I also love dealing with so many wonderful members of the public, who always seem so grateful for assistance. I love the fact that I learn something new every day and meet new people every day. I tell my friends that it's the best job in the world!
I have two fantastic sons, who keep me very busy. In my spare time (Ho Ho!) I swim at Aquarena, our local pool, play tennis and love to cook. I really enjoy music and have played the piano since I was five. I am trying to teach myself to play the guitar, but am struggling because it is so much harder than the piano.
I look forward to meeting other librarians online!
